in case假使;以备;以防;免得（但是，翻译的时候是灵活多样的，不必拘泥）

后跟从句，用虚拟语气和一般现在时。

In case I forget, please remind me of my promise.

假如我忘记了，请提醒一下我的诺言。

1. 可以引导目的状语从句（表示否定的目的）：以免，以备，以防”等解。如：

Take your umbrella in case it rains. = Take your umbrella in order that, if it rains, you may not be affected.

带上你的伞，以防下雨。(带上你的伞，以便下雨时你不会被雨淋湿。)

Write a will in case you die without providing for your family. = Write a will in order that you do not die without providing for your family.

写个遗嘱吧，以免你去世后你的家属得不到赡养。

下面两个句子最能说明In case 和 if 的区别:

1. I am taking an umbrella in case it rains later on.

2. I’ll take an umbrella if it rains later on.

在句1中，“我现在拿着一把伞”已经成为事实，而不管天晴还是下雨。

在句2中，“我是否拿伞”，决定于“过一会儿是否下雨”。

还可以表示“原因兼可能性”

I shall stay in the hotel all day in case there is news of Harry.

= I shall stay in the hotel all day because there may be news of Harry.我将在旅馆呆一整天，因为可能会有关于哈里的消息。

又例如：

But sit where you are, if you please, in case I want you.

3.(just) in case放在句末，表示：以防万一（可视为副词性短语）

I guess we've already talked about this but I'll ask you again just in case.
